The role

We are looking for experienced Gas Safe engineers to take on servicing, repair and remedial work on domestic gas boilers and central heating systems in customers’ homes across Kent. The work comes to you booked and confirmed - you turn up, do it properly and sign it off on your phone before you leave. The marketing, the quoting, the customer calls, the parts and the invoicing are all done by our office, so the hours you used to lose to admin go back to paid work, or to your evenings.

Most of the diary is annual services, landlord gas safety checks and breakdown calls, with the occasional boiler installation for engineers who want them. You will be working under the David Osborne Heating name, Gas Safe registration 2836, alongside a small team that has been installing, servicing and repairing boilers in East Kent for over 25 years.

What we take off your plate

The admin you stop doing the day you start with us:

  • Finding the work. The website, the Google advertising, the reviews and the reputation that make the phone ring are ours. You never spend a penny or an evening on marketing.
  • Surveying and quoting. Installs arrive surveyed, priced and accepted by the customer. No quotes at the kitchen table, no waiting a week to hear back, no haggling.
  • Booking and confirming. The office answers the phone, books the job and confirms it with the customer. It appears in your schedule. If they need to move it, the office sorts it.
  • Calling customers back. “What time will he be here?”, “can I add the radiator?”, “it’s making a noise again” - those calls go to the office, not to you while you are up a loft.
  • Chasing the money. The customer pays us. You send one invoice to one company, on terms agreed in writing. No chasing homeowners for payment, ever.
  • Ordering and tracking parts. Boilers, flues, filters and repair parts go on our trade accounts for next-day delivery, and the office checks they have landed before your job. Nothing fronted on your card, no ringing round merchants.
  • Warranties and paperwork. We register the manufacturer warranty and the Gas Safe notification. Certificates are signed on the app on site and filed for you. Nothing to bring back, nothing to type up.
  • The awkward bits. Cancellations, customers who change their mind, the odd complaint - the office handles it. You do the job properly and move on to the next one.

What's left for you: turn up, do the job properly, sign it off on the app, go home. Then invoice us for what you did.

What you'll be doing

  • Carry out boiler services, breakdown diagnosis and repairs in customers’ homes to a consistently high standard
  • Complete landlord gas safety records (CP12s) and boiler service sheets on our certificates app on site, signed by the customer before you leave
  • Give customers clear, honest advice about their system and what it needs, without over-selling
  • Flag anything unusual or unsafe to the office straight away and follow the immediately dangerous / at risk procedure correctly
  • Attend Gas Safe Register inspection visits on your work when they arise
  • Represent the business well - tidy van, tidy work, courteous with customers
  • Take on full boiler installations when you want them, working to our fixed-price quotes

What we need from you

  • Current Gas Safe registration with ACS: CCN1 and CENWAT as a minimum
  • At least five years’ experience servicing and repairing domestic gas boilers
  • Confident fault-finding across the common brands - Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Ideal, Glow-worm, Baxi
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current regulations and manufacturer requirements
  • Comfortable using a phone app for job sheets, photos and certificates
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Able to work on your own initiative and as part of a small team

Nice to have

  • CPA1 (combustion performance analysis)
  • Unvented hot water (G3)
  • LPG (CONGLP1PD)
  • Experience with heat pumps or an interest in training on them

What you'll bring

  • Your own van, clean and unbranded, and your own tools including a calibrated flue gas analyser
  • Public liability insurance (we will ask to see the schedule)
  • A basic DBS check, no more than 12 months old (you can apply online through gov.uk in a few minutes)
  • UTR number and CIS registration
  • A smartphone for the certificates app

Don't have a DBS certificate? Apply for a basic DBS check on gov.uk - it takes a few minutes online and usually arrives within two weeks. It only needs to be in place before your first job, not before you apply.

How it works

  • Jobs are booked and confirmed by our office and appear in your schedule - you never chase a customer or answer a cold enquiry
  • You invoice one company, us, for the work you complete. Rates are agreed at interview and set out in writing before you start. The customer’s money is our problem, not yours
  • Materials go on our trade accounts with next-day delivery and the office checks they have arrived. Nothing on your card, no ringing round merchants
  • Certificates and job records are done on our app on site and go straight to the customer’s file - no paperwork to bring back, no evening admin
  • We register the warranty, deal with the customer’s calls and questions, and handle any follow-up, so you can get on with the next job
